An Interview with the Dragon Regent by Astry
Malakyte stood in the plaza, near the fountain taking a long drink of the cool refreshing water. Having purified it, she was confident that it was safe and not tainted as sometimes had been the case in the past.
Astry makes her way through the plaza to the Lionshead for a bit of breakfast; then she stops in her tracks as she sees this beautiful dark green dragon standing next to the fountain. She looks the beautiful dragon over and wonders if she is the one she has been looking for. She clears her throat and says softly, "Excuse me I am sorry to bother you but do you happen to be Malakyte?"
The green dragon turns to look at the elf, noticing the sword on her back. "Greetings. Indeed I am called by that name. And who might you be?"
Astry gives a small smile as she swallows hard and holds up a scroll him her hand, "I am Astry the new squire and was given a task to interview you for the upcoming anniversary of our lands. May I ask you a few questions?"
Malakyte looks a bit surprised, and peers at the woman curiously. "To interview me? Well, I am here and have time for questions, so yes you may."
Astry nods her head taking a seat on the fountain. She unrolls the parchment paper and looks for her first question. Nervously looking over the magnificent emerald dragon, "How long have you been in this realm?"
Malakyte lowers her belly to the cool stone of the fountain and gives Astry a thoughtful look. "Well, it has been many years. In truth, I have not counted them, though by the measure of the realm I believe it to be around 7 years, give or take a few months."
Astry writes her answer down and reads over the questions. "Now let's see, oh yes, What brought you here and have you achieved any goals you have set out to do here?" She looks up at the dark green creature giving a small smile.
"What brought me here was the destruction of our old realm of Triskele. We had to find a new home. I came with no expectations, only wishing a place for the dragons and myself. I was the leader of the dragons there also, so it was important to find a place where we would all be accepted. I expected we would join with the dragons here and was surprised to be asked to become the leader. As for anything else, I have always been a healer, leaning toward the druid side. Even so, I did not expect to become the first arch druid here. My only goal at the time was to find a home for the Dragons of Triskele which I did."
Astry listens as she finishes, "OH no your home was destroyed. I am so sorry to hear that, But I am glad you have made a home with us." Looking over the dragon in all her splendor Astry thinks back for a few seconds and remembers how she has always loved dragons growing up, "Do you have any goals you would like to reach or have you reached all you can thus far?"
The Dragon Regent nods, "I have lived in several other realms before coming here, but this one has felt the most like home. As for goals, my intentions are to help the Queen (Comet) in defense of the realm as much as I am able and see to its well-being as a druid. I also have a personal goal to find my children lost in another realm long ago. "
Astry raises her brow when Malakyte mentions children, "Well I have heard a few rumors going around that you have a stone in your chest. Can you tell me about that?"
Malakyte looks a bit confused at that and actually glances down at her chest which does not have anything in it. "That is a strange story. There was a comet that hit our land, and the only thing that was left in the crater was a stone. It was bright, like a moonstone and very beautiful. I touched it with my talon, and it must have had some sort of magic to it because it became a part of me." She sighed then and lowered her head, obviously saddened to any who knew how to read a dragon. "Then I was defending territory I had claimed, from another dragon when it vanished." She narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "There was a dragon that I saw when I returned to Sylvhara, Lipari. I don't know what happened... but I do wonder if she took it somehow."
Astry eyes widen "So it is true then, somehow that moonstone has become part of you. How interesting. Once the stone disappeared did your behaviors change, what about your appearance? This is very exciting." The young elf squire looks over the exquisite emerald green dragon to see if she can see the stone, but unfortunately, there is no sign.
The green dragon seemed to pull out of the sadness that affected her and shook her head. Looking at the woman directly, she rose up a bit so that part of her chest was visible. "It is gone, see for yourself, and I am myself. I do not understand what you mean by behaviors. As far as I can see in my reflection, my appearance has not changed."
Astry looks at the dragon's chest when she rises for her and still sees nothing. Astry scratches her head this is very interesting indeed. Looking back up at Malakyte she gets a crazy idea in her head that it would be so amazing if she could have a dragon as her mount when she becomes a knight. Astry shakes her head at that thought and returns her focus on the stone, "Well you know, like have you been angrier, moody, happier, more sensitive stuff like that. I mean if something like a moonstone lands in you and you survived that, that's pretty amazing if you ask me."
Malakyte raised a scaled brow at the woman "Me, moody? Hmmmm..." She looks thoughtful, "It did seem as though the other dragons were trying to take it away from me... but... yes they were trying to take it from me. In fact, the dragon that I fought was trying to take it from me also, and it seemed my powers came easier, that is all. I was not hit by it... I touched it."
Astry nods, "This is most intriguing. So you touched it, and it disappeared? How bizarre is that? Well, I believe those are the only questions I have for you. I do hope we meet up again as I love to be around dragons and to learn from them." She thinks how wonderful it would be to ride a dragon, "I do thank you for your time this morning and hope I have not kept you from anything." Astry rolls up her parchment paper and places it in her trouser's pocket and looks back up at Malakyte.
"It was obviously powerfully enchanted." Malakyte rose to her feet and lowered her head for a moment in a quick bow. "Your welcome, I am sure we will see each other about the realm from time to time."
Astry shakes her head as she prepares to leave, "Very powerful indeed." Astry turns and heads back to the Hall of arms to get her work done looking back once more at the very beautiful dragon.
Malakyte watched as the squire walked away and then turned, leaping into flight to be on her way.
