An Interview with Vaurk Ort by Chloe Leftfeet
Chloe Leftfeet knocks very politely at the entrance to the Necropolis but does not... yet... go in the door. "Umm... hello? Anyone h-h-home?" She shivers a bit at the atmosphere.
Chloe shakily lights a candle lantern and looks about her warily, before knocking again very politely. "Ummm...hello?"
Chloe advances nervously on down the passage, holding her candle out to the side. "Umm...hello?"
She sees a dark doorway in the side of the tunnel and knocks very politely at its side. "Umm...hello?" she calls softly yet again, looking around her nervously. "Dishan..." she growls to herself. " 'Great idea.' 'You'd be perfect.' RIIIGGGHHHT. Next time YOU get the creepy spots."
Chloe takes a deep breath, remembers the money, and walks into the dark doorway.
Chloe looks around her. "CreePY..." she mutters under her breath. "Ooho, ick," she says as she passes a skeleton on the floor. "So messy."
Chloe Leftfeet pauses at the doorway. "Umm....hello?" she calls yet again, as she did in the gorge above, and also at the ominous shadowed door into this room. "Anyone h-h-here?" She holds her candle lantern to the side, the shaking of the lantern throwing odd shifting shadows along the grimy cobwebbed walls.
Chloe Leftfeet's eyes widen as she comes further into the room and sees a coffin in the center and... floating figures around it? She almost sees something in the dimness beyond but is not quite sure. Her eyes squint as she tries to make it out.
Vaurk Ort's head tilts up slightly, he had sensed the unlikely presence of a living soul.. first thought to be some sort of lost animal, but as it approached, the life force started to give away its source... further revealing itself as it begins to speak softly in the darkness of the Necropolis...
Chloe Leftfeet walks into the room a bit further, tripping over an odd stone and catching herself automatically, not quite dropping her candle. "H-h-hello?"
Vaurk Ort, out of habit, turns his head to face the distraction, though his senses did not rely on any sort of biological activity, such as that of ears or eyes. He can just make out the shape of the awkward, human female as she looks about the room. Her life essence seems strong, which both interests and repulses him simultaneously. It was highly unlikely that one such as she would wander into the Necropolis on her own accord.. amused by this thought he remains still but for the tilting of his head as he watches her step further into the room.
Chloe Leftfeet takes another very slow careful step forward, feeling imminent danger but unsure of its direction, moving ahead into the room only because of the promises she made to that opportunist cavalier.
Vaurk Ort lets his bony hands fall to his side where his fingers curl into fists... lowering his gaze he fills his chest with a charge of dusty dank air and releases it slowly, an otherworldly murmur slowly fills the room with a deep, haunting sound, a low vibration that shakes free small deposits of dust, which now settles to the floor. As the murmur begins to subside returning the room to near silence, the sound of bones creeking, the husks of long since departed souls twitch and animate... heads and necks craning to look to the entrance, to the form of a girl unfortunate enough to have entered the domain of the undead.
Chloe Leftfeet stops at the sound, an involuntary, "Eeek!" coming from her throat as the moaning sound fills the room, and the dust settles...and then the creaking begins. "Scary and messy!" she wails. 'Dishan...... you are SO in trouble!!"
Vaurk Ort remains still but for a side glance to one of several guardians positioned around the center of the room... it's eyelids creak open revealing dried out and empty eyes.. empty but for the faint glow of unlife. It's movements slow and labored; a long bony finger turns toward the living and points as it hisses... "You.. do not... belong here... not... yet..."
Chloe Leftfeet gasps in very quietly, her eyes wide. "Umm... no. I don't. But... umm... don't you let visitors stop by?" Her voice squeaks as she adds, "...sometimes?" with a hopeful expression in her dark eyes. The scent of vanilla wafts strongly through the room as she trembles a bit.
The guardian remains still, its eyes glowing a faint but fiery blue. "Visitors..." the consonants ticking unnaturally. Confused, the guardian inquires "Why.. have you come... and what is it... you seek... of this place?" The words spoken slow with staggered cadence. Very few of the living dared enter sanctum of the Necropolis.. not willingly, at least.
Chloe Leftfeet giggles nervously, "Gee, mister. Dishan asked me to talk to some folks for him. To ask some little... umm... questions. If you don't mind, I mean," she adds in a rush. "Please?" she chirps at the end.
The guardians, perplexed, ponder this request, glancing to one another and then back to their master.. whom offers him a reluctant nod in return. Over the last several minutes, the warmth and energy from the girl seemed to draw more attention.. a few more undead now wander into the space, corporeal and otherwise. The guardian turns back to face the girl... "Ask... or be gone..."
Chloe Leftfeet holds her candle higher, peering into the gloom around her. She studies the shadows around her, not certain what she is seeing and not eager to see any more clearly. She almost feels a power in this room, something that might be the heart of this dark land. She asks her question of the room and this mysterious dark power, "Umm...okay. Umm...who are you?"
The guardian pauses a moment and glances to the others before turning toward his master, his mouth agape. Turning back to the girl he begins to speak, but before a sound is uttered, Vaurk takes two steps into the light of the center of the room and speaks. "Why would someone such as you take interest in such a place, hmm?" his amusement was slowly turning to annoyance, but fortunately for her, his curiosity stayed his usual, ill-tempered response. "Perhaps you are a necromancer.. but more likely you are quite lost." He narrows his senses on her and waits...
Vaurk Ort would smirk if he could, his attempt at humor lost on this one... As she speaks the name of her sponsor and pauses to ponder this.. this name... Dishan... After searching his memories he decided he did not know this name, nor did it matter... His face expressionless, a response is uttered, "...A power indeed in Taure Ru.. I have sensed that many of my old foes have felt my return... and so by some chance, you have found me where my enemies have failed." he stopped there, considered a snide comment but decided to leave it be. "Well then... I can only assume it was I whom you queried a name?"
Chloe Leftfeet listens to the dry, dusty voice that sounds as if it has passed ages in this creepy, dark scary place. "Umm...yes?" she says. "You sound really smart, mister." She turns toward the voice but does not advance toward the ominous columns or the shadowy pale figures she almost thinks she sees there. "I think you could tell me a lot. If you want to, if you don't mind, I mean. I don't mean to pry, honest."
Vaurk Ort finds himself easing into a low murmur, which usually indicated annoyance.. it was not an uncommon occurrence... "You may tell your keeper... that you have stumbled upon, quite unfortunately, Vaurk Ort, Black Magister and Shadowplane Lord of Taure Ru, Master of House Nox of the Necropolis." he stopped there as to not overwhelm the unlucky soul before him.
Chloe Leftfeet squeaks, "Oh! Nice to meetcha!" She attempts a curtsey, begins to topple sideways, and catches herself on the noisome floor. "Ick!" she protests, and levers herself up, staring at her messy hand. "Umm....hi."
Vaurk Ort chomps his teeth together a few times and then glances to the pair of guardians on either side of her and gives them each a nod.. as he does so they respond by moving toward the girl with grabby hands outstretched ready to take her by her arms. "I grow weary of this game. Tell me what your keeper wishes to know, or I will command goblins to bring you to my lab and find the questions inside your skull cavity."
Chloe Leftfeet shrieks and backs up, speaking very quickly, "Okay. He asked me to just ask you little things. How long you have been here and what your name was and what your..." she gulps here, "...your goals are. But we can forget that it's all right and if you met your goals and if you are happy..." she finally takes a short breath here, "...and stuff like that." Chloe is backing up with each word she says, running over in her mind the location of the exit.
Vaurk Ort waits for the guardians to drift a bit closer before holding up his hand, gesturing them to pause. "Longer than anyone can remember, including me, I suppose." He tries to think back to his living days.. "I seem to recall arriving in the lands of Aryador.. hundreds of years back, near the start of the fourth age. Prior to that.. the land of.. Erebos.. yes.. that is the one.. Anything before that is frankly a blur.. Does this satisfy your query?" he stares blankly at her.
Chloe Leftfeet stops, watching the guardians and looking over her right shoulder to the creature she sees behind her. "Umm....if you want. But I want to know something, for me. If you don't mind, Mister....umm...Vaurk." She thinks for a moment about the sound of his voice, the weight of the ages in it, and looks around at the dark, dank place where he resides."Are you happy?"
Vaurk Ort mutters something terrible and makes his gestures toward the guardians again, whom again turn and make grabby toward the girl..
Chloe Leftfeet shrieks and runs, tossing her candle lantern with amazing accuracy at the creature behind her and to her right and running with surprising dexterity for the door.
Chloe shakily lights a candle lantern and looks about her warily, before knocking again very politely. "Ummm...hello?"
Chloe advances nervously on down the passage, holding her candle out to the side. "Umm...hello?"
